Method
- Slice the bread into even pieces and set aside. Prepare the cheese slices and slice the tomatoes, arranging them in bowls for easy assembly.
- Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each bread slice; this will create a crispy, golden crust when grilled.
- Place one slice of bread butter-side-down onto a preheated skillet over medium heat. Layer slices of cheese on top of the bread.
- Add slices of heirloom tomato over the cheese, distributing them evenly for maximum flavor and juiciness.
- Top with a second slice of bread, butter-side-up, and gently press down to help the sandwich hold together.
- Cook the sandwich for about 3-4 minutes, until the bottom is golden brown and crispy. Then, flip carefully using a spatula and cook the other side for another 3-4 minutes, until equally golden and the cheese has melted.
- Once both sides are crispy and the cheese is melted, remove the sandwich from the skillet and let it rest for a minute to settle.
- Slice the grilled cheese diagonally, revealing the bubbly cheese and juicy tomato inside. Serve immediately and enjoy the delightful combination of crispy bread, melted cheese, and fresh tomatoes.
Notes
Use fresh, ripe tomatoes for the best flavor. Feel free to experiment with different cheeses or bread types.
