Ingredients

  • 2 pounds turkey breast boneless and skinless preferred
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon for warm spice flavor
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger adds heat and aroma
  • 1 tablespoon citrus zest (orange or lemon) for brightness
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil to help spices adhere and promote browning
  • 1 teaspoon salt or to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground for flavor
  • 1 cup chicken broth for the slow cooker base

Equipment

  • Slow cooker
  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring spoons
  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Tongs

Method

  1. Rub the turkey breast with olive oil, then evenly coat it with a mixture of cinnamon, ginger, salt, and black pepper, ensuring the spices stick well.
  2. Use a sharp knife to finely zest orange or lemon and set aside for later.
  3. Place the seasoned turkey breast into the slow cooker, then sprinkle citrus zest over the top.
  4. Pour chicken broth around the turkey breast, avoiding disturbing the spice coating on top.
  5. Cover the slow cooker with the lid and set to high. Let the turkey cook undisturbed for about 6 hours or until the meat easily pulls apart and is tender.
  6. Once cooked, open the lid and gently transfer the turkey to a cutting board using tongs—observe the moist, juicy appearance and fragrant aroma.
  7. Slice the turkey into thin, even pieces, noting the tender, shredded consistency and spice aroma lingering in the air.
  8. Arrange the slices on a serving platter, optionally garnish with extra citrus zest or a sprinkle of spices for presentation.
  9. Serve the tender, aromatic turkey slices hot, enjoying the moist texture and fragrant spices with your favorite side dishes.

Notes

For a richer flavor, marinate the turkey with the spice mixture overnight prior to slow cooking. Adjust spice quantities according to taste preference.
