Ingredients

  • 4 cups cubed watermelon seedless or pitted
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice about 2-3 lemons
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves loosely packed
  • 2 tablespoons honey or simple syrup adjust to taste
  • 2 cups cold water
  • Ice cubes for serving

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Fine mesh strainer

Method

  1. Add the watermelon chunks into the blender and pulse a few times to start breaking them down.
  2. Pour in the fresh lemon juice and add the basil leaves to the blender.
  3. Drizzle in the honey or simple syrup, then blend on high until everything is smooth and the basil is finely chopped, about 30 seconds.
  4. Place a fine-mesh strainer over a large pitcher and pour the blended mixture through it, pressing gently to extract as much liquid as possible while leaving behind the pulp and herbs.
  5. Stir in the cold water to dilute the concentrate and adjust sweetness or tartness to your liking.
  6. Fill tall glasses with ice cubes and pour the watermelon lemonade over them.
  7. Garnish each glass with a sprig of basil or a thin slice of lemon if desired, then serve immediately with a straw.

Notes

For an extra fizzy twist, top with sparkling water just before serving. Adjust sweetness with honey or syrup as needed. Use fresh, ripe watermelon for best flavor.
